Essential coatings for ceramic composites

Fibre Interphase Coatings

ATL provides single and multi-layer interphase coatings for fibres that are proven to be effective for oxide, non-oxide and metal composites. These are coated with matrix material – such as silicon carbide – to protect the interphase and retain the desired geometry.

Following the interphase coating, these samples are suitable for full densification via chemical vapour infiltration (CV), polymer infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP), or liquid silicon infiltration (LSI). Our fibre interphase application processes currently take place using a batch method, however, we have also developed  a lab-scale continuous fibre reactor.
